Searching Diligently
Pause
Come, follow the star.
Let God’s light illuminate our path.
Do not be afraid.
In the light of the star, love guides our way.
Come, follow the star.
Listen
Then Herod secretly called for the magi and found out from them the time when the star had first appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search carefully for the child. When you’ve found him, report to me so that I too may go and honor him.” When they heard the king, they went; and look, the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stood over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy.
Matthew 2:7-10
Think
When I was young, searching for Christmas gifts my parents had hidden, I knew what it meant to search diligently. It meant never giving up until a glimpse of something new was found. It meant looking every free minute, asking good questions, and incorporating the help of my brother and sister.
The magi were told to go and search diligently for the Christ-child. They set out and they didn’t stop until they found Jesus. How many times have you thought that you just don’t see Christ in the world? We give up so easily when it comes to seeking Jesus today. Stars are all around guiding us. Let us go and search diligently, and I promise that we too will be overwhelmed with joy.
Pray
Overwhelm me with joy, God. May I remember and appreciate the fullness of the story of Christ’s birth. May I feel rays of your light warming my heart. May the good news of great joy wash over me. Guide me today and every day. Amen.
Go
God has called us to move into a new year as bright manifestations of light and love.
May we be epiphanies ourselves, illuminating God’s presence in the world.
Today and always shine bright.
